Hello Friends!
Welcome back! You have heard of these two words bit and byte. Today we will discuss what are these and where these words came from. The word bit is a short form of Binary Digit. Binary is a Number system having only two digits 0 and 1. 0 is one bit and 1 is another bit.
All computer systems work on binary and understands only binary. Data fed in the computers of any type is converted in 0s and 1s and stored in computers memory. All processing is done on these two digits and results are again in the form of 0s and 1s and stored in the memory again. These results are again converted back in the form understandable to us. So you see how important are these two bits 0 and 1 for the computers.
A computer's memory is a most vital part of it and is perhaps most costly among its components. Computer's memory is measured in the term of bits, which tells how much amount of data can be stored in the memory. 0 and 1 are separate bits.
4 bits= 1 Nibble
8 bits= 1 Byte
1024 Bytes= 1 Kilo Byte (1 KB)
1024 Kilo Bytes= 1 Mega Byte (1 MB)
1024 Mega Bytes= 1 Giga Byte (1 GB)
1024 Giga Byte= 1 Terra Byte (1 TB)
Generally KB means Kilo Byte and Kb means Kilo bit. These days hard discs of 120 GB are being used that means these can store 120 Giga Bytes of data in them.
I hope this post will be knowledgeable to you all. Let me know if you want any post on any other topics. Enjoy reading.
