Internet in your pocket

Hello friends. Welcome back. As many of us use traditional methods for connecting to internet i.e. Broadband Connection or dial up connection. There is an alternate method also and that is connecting to internet through our cell phones. We have discussed on the topic in our past posts also. Let us know some thing more about the technolgoies involved.
Our mobiles work on mainly two technologies namely 1.GSM and 2.CDMA GSM stands for Global System for Mobile Communications. These are the mobiles in which we may use SIM cards of Service Provider Companies of our choice. On the other hand some service providers use CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) technique e.g. Reliance and Tata Indicom in India.
GSM types of networks use GPRS and EDGE technologies for their data services (Internet Services). GPRS stands for General Packet Radio Service and this technology allows transfer of data/information between a mobile network in addition to voice calls and Short Message Services (SMSs).
GPRS provides a moderate speed which is less than a Broadband Connection but better than a Dial up connection. It may provide speed of about 180/200 kbps (Kilo bits per second). BSNL India provides 230.4 kbps theoritical speeds. GPRS is a cost effective service that means it provides full value of your money. Other salient feature of GPRS is that you get information instantaneously. You can even know Live Cricket scores from the websites like www.cricinfo.com etc.

Cyber Crime

Hello friends!
How are you? I think you will be enjoying my blogs. Today let us know some thing about cyber crime. What is cyber crime? Cyber crime is a crime done with the help of computers or computing devices like cell phones. Asking a ransom on cell phone, sending or preparing nude film of any girl with or without consent of the girl or making or trying fraud on internet, stealing a mobile phone etc. are many examples of cyber crime. Besides stealing important data from a computer, hacking a website all are cyber crimes.
How can it be controlled? It is very difficult to nab the cyber culprits. The reason is that Police of most of the countries is far behind the culprits in technical know-how, especially Indian Police. The reason is that enough training is not provided to law enforcement agencies. Also culprits spend much more money for hiring computer professionals and forcing them to do crime.
Although big guns like Microsoft Corpn. and others are trying to combat the problem. Microsoft has devised a device named "COFEE" i.e. Computer Online Forensic Evidence Extract. The device may be much helpful for law enforcement agencies in cracking down the culprits. This device having more than 150 commands can take data/evidence in much less time. It can break the password easily and can track online activities of the culprits. It can also work in power failure or system breakdown conditions. Now there is no need to cease the computers of the culprits in each case. More than 2000 officers of about 15 countries are using this device. Need of the hour is that more such efforts be made to combat cyber crime.
