Hello friends. Welcome back. As many of us use traditional methods for connecting to internet i.e. Broadband Connection or dial up connection. There is an alternate method also and that is connecting to internet through our cell phones. We have discussed on the topic in our past posts also. Let us know some thing more about the technolgoies involved.
Our mobiles work on mainly two technologies namely 1.GSM and 2.CDMA GSM stands for Global System for Mobile Communications. These are the mobiles in which we may use SIM cards of Service Provider Companies of our choice. On the other hand some service providers use CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) technique e.g. Reliance and Tata Indicom in India.
GSM types of networks use GPRS and EDGE technologies for their data services (Internet Services). GPRS stands for General Packet Radio Service and this technology allows transfer of data/information between a mobile network in addition to voice calls and Short Message Services (SMSs).
GPRS provides a moderate speed which is less than a Broadband Connection but better than a Dial up connection. It may provide speed of about 180/200 kbps (Kilo bits per second). BSNL India provides 230.4 kbps theoritical speeds. GPRS is a cost effective service that means it provides full value of your money. Other salient feature of GPRS is that you get information instantaneously. You can even know Live Cricket scores from the websites like www.cricinfo.com etc.

Using BSNL GPRS on Motorola L6i
Hello friends!
Today I am discussing a problem I faced much. Earlier I was using Airtel GPRS (General Packet Radio System) to connect to internet. But someone stole my Cell Phone Motorola L6i on which I was using it. Thanks to Cyber cell Panchkula Police, which traced and returned it to me after about three months. I had to purchase a new Motorola L6i in between as I am addicted to internet. But this time I opted for BSNL GPRS. The experience was more bitter as it was not easy to connect to internet on computer through the mobile with BSNL GPRS.
I was spending more than Rs. 450/- for BSNL GPRS (including mobile voice calls), but in vain. I was able to use internet on mobile but not on computer. I tried myself a lot hard, researched Internet for the problem, contacted customer care centre of many districts but all in vain. Different solutions were suggested but nothing worked, even BSNL engineers were unable to solve my problem.
Finally I found solution. The solution was in Motorola Phone Tools CD. I spent Rs. 250/- on it, although it should have been free with the mobile it self. So next time you buy a phone may be of any company, do not forget to ask for its CD containing the necessary software. It may save you from many problems. With this CD of Motorola Phone Tools I was able to enjoy internet on computer also. In my next post I will tell you how you can create a dial up connection which is essential to connect.
